Burcu ŞAHİN 2009

Born in Mugla Turkey in 1957, Burcu Sahin (BURC) graduated from TED Ankara High School in 1974 and from the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. She practiced architecture until 1996 when she decided to devote herself to painting. She lives and works in Istanbul. In her paintings, she gives special emphasis to light and dark surfaces and the role they play in completing the identity of her subjects. She has always tried to stay away from sophistication and preferred to be easily understood. In Ankara, the artist exhibits her works in Turkuvaz Art Gallery. This year’s exhibition is named 3K, derived from three subjects; kadın (woman), kısrak (mare) and keçi (goat). A part from having common first letters, these three subjects certainly creates the perception of possessing other common characteristics as well. Recently, her art is being more closely followed by foreign art lovers and she has already received exhibition invitations from abroad. The artist expects strong interest for her 3K exhibition.
